What is WPC Decking / Cladding?
Wood-plastic composite (WPC) decking/cladding refers to the use of reclaimed wood sawdust and plastic waste, under pressure and heat to manufacture decking/cladding products. Put simply, it is decking/cladding made out of a combination of wood and plastic. The plastic content of the composition ensures the deck boards have a long-lasting lifespan without any need for seal or treatment throughout its lifetime. On the other hand, the wood content of the composite gives the decking the visually pleasing, tactile wood feel.
WPC decking offers a wide array of advantages. It is an environmentally friendly product as you do not make use of harmful chemicals for treatment every year. It is also water and corrosion resistant, moth-proof, and alkali resistant. WPC decking is termite resistant as crack, splinter, or decay, hence it cannot fall victim to any infestation by insects. The decking would never need any painting, refinishing, or staining. In fact, all it would ever require is soap and water bath occasionally.
Although the process does require some amount of energy, it cannot be compared to the volume of waste products that are saved from going into the landfills – wastes that eventually turn out to become lifelong products. WPC decking/cladding provides the material an extra protection layer – even better than traditional wood decking, especially as it contains UV inhibitors that ensures protection against UV and an element of resilience and strength.
